While you’re at it, Steve Waid has a nice retro look at Kyle Petty’s last victory. What was not part of the column was the role Providence played – at least to some – in that race. Barry’s young children had been killed in an accident the year before, and after taking some time off from the Cup spotlight, he decided he would prefer to go out a winner. To Barry and many others it seemed a message from above as a bright sun beamed overhead while Kyle took the checkers.
