Aah. How comforting to be back to real racing (pink curbs notwithstanding – nice touch). It had it all. Great drivers acting average and average drivers showing signs of greatness. Finesse and bullying. Courtesy and spite. Hopes kept alive and more dashed.
Was that the ghost of Earnhardt in the 17? Brian Vickers coming to the party as Jerry Glanville? Maybe Red Bull should change his number to one-eighty-three.
The 14 battling just to stay on the lead lap was worth the price of admission. If he happens to be your favorite driver, I’ll bet you consider that one of the greatest races ever. Almost makes me wish I was a Tony Stewart fan.
As usual, the ESPN crew shines and Nascar makes us wonder.
10.30.66: Rockingham. Ned Jarrett announces this will be his final race and Junior Johnson retires for good after the race.
If Ned was in the booth we’d know what’s up with Delma Cowart.
