It’s almost time. Before all heck breaks out for 2010, I need to clean out the closet.
Among the things that have accumulated over the past few weeks:
Kyle Petty replaces Mr. Excitement on Speed’s pregame program. Now I might be able to pay a little more attention to the show.
Lowe’s Motor Speedway is once again Charlotte Motor Speedway. At least for a while I won’t be calling it by the wrong name as I have for the last 10-11 years.
If you haven’t read Felix Sabates’ take on what ails Nascar, check it out at thatsracin.com. Felix always has good insight and speaks from his heart even if he occasionally has to apologize for his remarks. We love you, Felix.
Oh, goody. In the span of just a couple weeks, we will be graced with Danica, Sarah and Kim Kardashian.
Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite: On this date (Feb.5) in 1950 on the beach and road course in Daytona, a crowd of 9500 witnessed Harold Kite (’49 Lincoln) beat Red Byron (’50 Olds ’88) by 53 seconds. There were of course 3 Flocks in the race that lasted just under 2 1/2 hours. For his troubles, Mr. Kite won $1500. Not much until you see that Fireball got $25 for his 33rd place finish.
For an incredible amount of racing history, I recommend “racing-reference.info”, and “Forty Years Of Stock Car Racing” by Greg Fielden. Unbelievable!
