Secretariat 500

Another good race is in the can.

Pocono is one of the few places it doesn’t seem so nettling when they get strung out. You know there are going to be many interesting moments – even if the end looks like that famous photo by Bob Coglianese of the 1973 Belmont Stakes.

It appeared the rain gods were about to do evil, but alas, they proved blessed. Blessed as a person who survives multiple plane crashes.

NCWTS: Ol’ DW may still be insisting Austin Dillon had some responsibility in that incident with Todd (I think it was Todd), but unless DW was watching a different race, the only way the 3 could have avoided that incident is if he wasn’t in the race.

I vote Kurt Busch’s interview after his wreck  the best ever. Perfectly responsive, direct, and polite, especially in light of what he had just been through.

8.2.81: In his rookie year, Ron Bouchard got his one and only Cup victory (Dega).

7.30/31.55: Tim Flock won at Syracuse, NY, flew to Sacramento, CA and won there. Not so big a deal in 2010, but in 1955, not bad.

7.31.88: Ken Schrader, @ Dega, got his 1st Cup victory.

If Ned were in the booth we’d know what’s up with Barry Bodine.
