Since I had MRN on during the Michigan race, I missed what must have been a riveting narrative from the ESPN crew while the 14 – off the pace and under green – was alone in the shot for about 4 laps. Apparently there was no actual racing going on at the time.
Quote of the week ( from Mark Martin after being asked about being a part-timer ): “The best part of not being at the racetrack is being able to put my arms around my wife, see her, and do what I please,”
Speaking of ” Slippin’ and Slidin’ ” at the Glen, I have grown fond of ” stock car ” road racing over the last few years. It’s a change of pace and the ambience and action have been compelling. I also believe 2 a year is about right. But to level the playing field and to have the best of both worlds, maybe it’s time to have 2 Cup series – one on ovals and one on ” twisty ” tracks. It seems obvious to me that there are some Nascar road course aces who should probably stick to that style of racing. You know who they are. They can’t get out of the way and they tend to regularly wreak havoc on ovals.
In spite of the ” slick track ” ending at the Glen, Nascar engineered pretty good back to back weekends. Thanks.
8.12.73: At Dega, on lap 90 Bobby Isaac retired from the sport ( at least for a few months ). He said ” Something told me to quit. I don’t know anything else to do but abide by it “. Not necessarily related, but on lap 14, ’72 rookie of the year Larry Smith died after hitting the wall.
If Ned was in the booth we’d know what’s up with Chad Little.
