Another intense race is in the can.
If Regan Smith had any doubts he’s a race winner before, he surely has none after the Truck race. This we know: the 18 passed below the yellow line(s); he was not forced below the line. Nascar‘s interpretation seems to be the 18 was forced by physics. That may be true, but it was Rowdy’s choice to take on Sir Isaac Newton. As much as I’m a fan of his, I don’t believe he should be granted immunity from – or rewarded for – trying to break the laws of physics.
Speaking of the Truck race, once again – as usual – it topped the Cup event in continued action and great finish. This in spite of the fact the Cup race was thrilling and above average. I suppose technical and tire rules, and the relative brevity of the Truck events are the main contributing factors. Since I prefer longer events (a hint to my advanced age), I’ll accept the lesser competition the Cup series provides.
I’ve seen the networks break from commercial for “the big one” on a number of occasions, but this is the first time I recall a network cut from a commercial to catch a restart. Maybe Nascar has secretly invoked a fine for missing restarts. Whatever the reason, I want to let ESPN know I greatly appreciate that move.
